Two themes emerged strongly: the historically significant Ohinemuri River and the town's beloved antique shops. A pair of Crown Lynn swans discovered in one such shop inspired the final design. When Māori first arrived in Aotearoa as Pacific navigators, there were no people to welcome them with karanga (traditional calls).
